Inspiration for the Day (Guest Post): Easy Green tips anyone can follow

I am so excited at the Guest Post By: Christine Tolhurst at Saved By Grace Blog! She just started her blog and I hope that you will support her by following her on the social media outlet of your choice.

She has some great tips on being Eco-friendly and frugal and they are really simple to incorporate into your daily living routines.

Now a little more about Christine:
Interview Questions:

1. When did you start your blog?
I started my blog in January 2012.

2. Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog so I could bring some meaning into my life. I was tired of "the usual" and as a disabled homemaker, I felt I was not living up to my full potential. I have always loved writing and sharing my knowledge with others and I wanted to do something that I could use this passion and interest in. I also wanted to have a way to potentially earn money.

3. What is the most challenging thing about blogging?
The most challenging thing has been learning all there is to blogging, from the technical stuff (I am terrible with web formatting!) to the networking. I really have had to learn how to get myself out there and that has been difficult!

4.   How did you come up with the name for your blog?
That was an easy one. I am a Christian and I believe we are saved by grace alone :) and since I am definitely not perfect, I need a lot of it!

5.   What do you hope your follows were gain from reading your blog?
I hope my readers/followers gain a friend. I hope they learn something they didn't know whether it is something biblical, a new recipe they have never tried or info about a product they have never heard of, I hope they know they can come to me for something new!

GUEST POST:

I am not too much of a “crunchy” mom, but there are some easy ways I have found that just about anyone can do to go green. They do not cost more, they are not a huge hassle and they save you money!

I am the kind of person that if it isn’t easy, I won’t be likely to do it when it comes to going green, so you can trust that these ways I have found are good for you even if you are like me.

*Use coffee filters to clean windows and tv screens. They do not scratch, are cheaper than paper towels, you get way more in a pack (thus, use less waste) and leave no streaks.

*While you are at it, make your own glass cleaner.. Just get a spray bottle and fill it with one part vinegar and two parts water.

*Re-use everything you can. I sometimes buy stuff in plastic containers just so I can have my own food storage. Just clean them out and re-use. I use these plastic containers from sour cream, butter etc for everything from a small container to hold dipping sauce in to storing my daughter’s art supplies as well as food storage.

*If you buy jarred pasta sauce, use the glass containers. I have a couple that I saved the lids from and one of my favorite uses for that is to make scrambled eggs quickly. Kids love it. Just crack open a few eggs in the container, add seasonings and a splash of milk, top it with lid and shake. Very quick way to combine anything. We also use them as glasses around here for drinking out of.

*If you forget your re-useable bags and must go with plastic ones at the store, don’t despair! You can use them for lots of things-small trash can liners, putting wet swimsuits in after swimming, lunches, cleaning out the cat litter box, using them as “stuffing” in mailings, and even donate them to libraries, food pantries and thrift stores.

* Save coffee cans and use them to pour grease in. You can seal it up after its cool and keep it under your sink and out of the way.

*Re-use worn socks as rags and dust cloths. Also, cut up old towels for the same thing.

*Instead of throwing away lemon/lime/orange peels, why not freeze them and use them in recipes? You can also make a GREAT smelling air freshener: Just add some peels to a small pot of boiling water and add some cloves. Makes the house smell wonderful.

*Use the new energy efficient light bulbs. I was skeptical at first because they are a tad bit more expensive, but I have never had to change them in the 2 years I have used them.

*Save junk mail for your kid’s art projects. If there is one side of a letter you no longer need, save it for your young ones to draw on the other side.

*Use re-chargeable batteries. They are more expensive at first, but since you can use them a long time before tossing, you not only save money in the long run, but create less waste.

I hope my easy tips will help you make the transition to going green easier and help you save money! Happy Earth Day!
